History
MF was founded in 1907 as an independent theological institution at university level and is Norway's largest provider of theological education and research.
Education
Since 1967, MF has offered academic studies in Christianity and religion for use in school and society.
Research
Since October 2012, MF has moderated a project within the Lifelong Learning Programme (Grundtvig) called “Religion and Multiculturality: Educational Pathways for Local Church Leaders” (CULTA). The overall goal of the project is to contribute through lifelong learning to the development of advanced knowledge and skills of church representatives to respond adequately to the changing society. In the first phase of the project, several research projects were accomplished and presented on the project website. In the second phase, the project has developed a training handbook with a specific teaching methodology for local church leaders, based on peer-to-peer knowledge.

Student services
The Quality Assurance System (or QAS) is designed to ensure that MF provides education of high international quality, and that the education of students who graduate from MF is well adapted to the workplace they will be stepping into. It relies on students’ perspectives on MF’s recruitment, learning and teaching environment, exam procedures, and additional preparations for professional life. The system encompasses all of MF’s undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education programs.
Housing services
As an exchange student at MF, you can apply for housing through The Foundation for Student life in Oslo (SiO).We recommend that you apply for student housing as early as possible when you apply for an exchange at MF. You apply online through SiOs web pages, where you will also find more information on the different housing options, rules and regulations. SIO has many housing units in Oslo and the surrounding areas. Most international students live at Sogn, Ullevål or Kringsjå. These are the largest student villages.
Library services
The library is a part of MF’s Learning centre, where, in addition to library services, you’ll find IT-services and courses. The library uses Oriaa search engine that allows you to browse the library's resources, books, articles, journals, music, films, and electronic resources etc. Oria users can sign into My Account and renew their borrowed books.

IT Support can help you with:

- Printing from the computer lab or from your laptop
- Refilling paper and toner in printers and copy machines
- Questions about Canvas and Studentweb usage
Medical services
Students from EU/EEA countries must have health insurance coverage from their home country. The European Health Insurance Card documents that you are entitled to necessary medical treatment during temporary stays in other EEA countries or in Switzerland. You are entitled to treatment on a par with the citizens of the country where you are staying.
Campus life
MF students are engaged and committed to making student life as fulfilling as possible. Everybody has a chance to help improve the school because students are democratically represented in every governing body within MF, as well as bodies that represent students nationally in Norway. The NAUTILUS Survey confirms that MF students are more satisfied overall than students from other institutions, both in social environment and academics.
Sports facilities
MF has a gym, training room and sauna that can be freely used by students. You can reserve time in the gym at the beginning of each semester. The training room is always open. Check the notice in the sauna (in the locker room) to find out when it is on.
