Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis

History

Indiana University and Purdue University merged their many programs and schools to create Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis in 1969.

Since then, IUPUI has come into its own, becoming Indiana’s premier urban research university.

Education

IUPUI is dedicated to doing its part to creating a sustainable future. As a result of its initiatives, the campus has received the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education's AASHE STARS designation.

Research

You’ll find research opportunities at IUPUI that cover every interest and expand your understanding of what research is—and where it can take you.

The IUPUI research culture is all about helping you find your purpose—whether you’re into health sciences, graphic design, or sustainable architecture. There’s an electric atmosphere here that results when discovery mixes with our compassion.

We’re championing knowledge, taking care of important needs of all kinds, and benefitting humanity—in a city that is full of real-life laboratories—and in all corners of the world.

Career

The Office of Student Employment will help you find part-time work that not only builds your bank account, but is also on or near campus, and gives you relevant and meaningful career experience to add to your resume.

Student services

The Division of Student Affairs exists to support you in your college journey -- wherever it takes you. While this academic year will be unique, we are in this together, and we are here to help you succeed.

All nine of our student-focused units will continue to provide programs and services both virtually and in person. And we’ll host monthly town halls for students to answer questions and provide updated information.

Housing services

Our campus residence options were developed for students of all kinds. University Tower, for instance, is a four-star-hotel turned IUPUI oasis dedicated to freshman living. Our Riverwalk Apartments, on the other hand, are for students who want a taste of independence while still staying connected to the Jaguar community. Ball Hall offers a traditional take on college residence halls, while our serene Townhomes are fully furnished with in-unit washers and dryers.

Library services

The IUPUI University Library remembers with deep appreciation Robert L. Payton. Mr. Payton was a pioneer in the field of philanthropy, and played a leading role in establishing philanthropy as an academic discipline. He became the first ever professor of Philanthropic Studies at IUPUI and was a founding Director of the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University.

Medical services

At IUPUI, we take a holistic approach to health and wellness. Why? Because having a healthy body and a healthy mind enables you to meet—and exceed—your personal, academic, and professional goals.

On campus, you’ll find that developing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is part of Jaguar culture.

Campus life

Experience on-campus urban living at IUPUI. We offer a variety of residential options, including everything from traditional residence halls to townhome and apartment-style communities. You can even choose to live in one of 15 Residence Based Learning Communities, where you live with other students focused on a particular academic area or social cause.

Sports facilities

What’s true in real estate is true for workouts. It’s all about location and having a great place to break a sweat.

Opened in the spring of 2018, our newest facility features dozens of cardio equipment, including treadmills, ellipticals, upright and recumbent bikes, krankcycles, and more. If strength training is more your style, you have your choice of free weights and pin-select machines to build muscle from head to toe. We also have a functional fitness area where you can work out on your own or join an MX4 fitness class. Two fitness studios are home to our other classes, including indoor cycling with more than 20 bikes just waiting for you to get spinning.

Student clubs

Students who actively participate in student organizations at IUPUI aren’t doing it for the extra bullet point on their resume (—though it sure does look nice there).

They’re involved because they’re passionate about the work they get to do through the organization. They’re excited about the relationships they’re building—professional and personal.

And they’re excited about where their experiences will take them.

It was this commitment that was behind the merger of the Indianapolis campuses and programs of IUPUI—some of which are more than 100 years old—that won accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission in 1969, creating IUPUI.
