The institution was founded by Ioannis Gregoriou in 1961 under the name Cyprus College, to provide students with well-rounded programs of study combining academic and practical knowledge. The College became European University Cyprus in 2007, following a change in the law to allow the operation of private universities in Cyprus.
European University Cyprus has six schools
The AHPC group was established in 2012 and carries out pioneering work in Astrophysics and Parallel and Distributed Computing. The group has a prestigious network of international collaborators and is directed by Prof. Andreas Efstathiou, Vice Rector for Research and External Affairs.
The Center for Game Studies carries out research on various aspects of games, from their impact on society to the creation of game design and evaluation principles and guidelines. The center is directed by Dr George Christou, an Assistant Professor and chairman of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
The Centre for Risk, Safety and the Environment (CERISE) was established in 2011. CERISE’s mission is to promote to the wider public and the local SME (industrial and business) communities the values and necessities of safety. CERISE is directed by Dr George Boustras, Dean of the School of Business.
CESMATSE is an inter-disciplinary research center serving the economy, the society and the environment. The Center is directed by Dr Nikolaos Boukas an Assistant Professor of the School of Business.
The Center for the Study of Childhood and Adolescence facilitates, coordinates and conducts pioneering research on children and adolescents. The center is one of the most established of the University and is directed by Prof. Spyros Spyrou of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The European University Cyprus Career Office was established in 1989 and provides students and alumni with comprehensive career advice. The Office maintains links to a wide range of local and regional public- and private-sector enterprises and organizations, as well as offering a range of personal and career development services.
EUC challenges and supports students in order to facilitate the development of their intellectual, emotional, recreational and career growth. The service attempts to help students in coping with various problems of a personal, emotional and/or interpersonal nature that may constitute obstacles to their adjustment to University, their academic success, and personal growth. Academic advising assists students in wisely selecting and pursuing their academic studies.
The Housing Division of the Office of Student Affairs works hard to create a stimulating environment conducive to learning where residents can develop strong personal and social relationships.
European University Cyprus has inaugurated five modern buildings located minutes from the University to meet the increasing housing needs of students. The Housing Units offer superior living conditions and they have been designed to ensure privacy, comfort and independence to residents. The buildings consist of one studio, two, three and four bedroom apartments.
The Library of European University Cyprus for over 25 years has strived to maintain not only a level of academic excellence but also of flexibility in order to be among the first to adopt to the changes that take place in regards to traditional teaching and teaching methodology.
The campus is currently made up of more than 80 accredited campus-based and online institutions, in 29 countries throughout North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East, with more than 150 campuses and over 950,000 students worldwide.
European University Cyprus has one of the best indoor athletic facilities in the country. With a seating capacity of over 400, the Athletic Center is used for a variety of student athletic activities including volleyball, basketball, korfball, indoor soccer and handball. The Center is equipped with spacious locker rooms, changing rooms and shower facilities.
The newly-renovated Gymnastic Center is located in the basement of the West Block building. The center is equipped with around 30 fitness machines, lockers, and changing rooms.
Student life is an important aspect of university education as it can offer a unique opportunity to develop leadership and communication skills. Campus life at European University Cyprus focuses on the intellectual, occupational, social and cultural growth and nurturing of students. One of the many responsibilities we have towards our students is that of creating an interesting and supportive environment that meets their wide range of interests and talents.
Students are encouraged to become involved with one or more clubs and student organizations. The University offers a variety of clubs and student Associations, 10 intercollegiate teams, sports, and student government. Extra curricular activities ranging from Legal Rhetoric Speech Contest, Cultural Night, Meditation, BBQs, Parties, Excursions and Festivals, complement an active campus life and offer ample opportunity for fun and memories.
All Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD Programs have been approved by the Accreditation Committee of Private Universities of the Ministry of Education and Culture and are recognized worldwide.
The European University Cyprus School of Medicine is accredited by the Evaluation Committee of Private Universities of the Ministry of Education and Culture (MOEC).
