History

The Web Science Institute draws together world-leading researchers from across the University of Southampton in a range of interdisciplinary research activities. Student services

We aim to help you deal with any problems you might come across so you can make the most of your University life. We are committed to helping you find the support and information that is right for you.

Housing services

We offer a wide variety of rooms in our halls of residence to suit every student's needs and budget. From self-catered rooms with a shared bathroom from £104 per week, to en suite rooms from £126 per week, there's something for everyone.

We also offer part-catered options with two hot meals provided every weekday, Monday to Friday as well as self contained studio flats for those who enjoy their own space. Library services

The University Library has a comprehensive collection of books and journals, both electronic and print, available from the Hartley and other campus libraries, plus a range of services to support teaching and research across all areas of the University.

LibGuides has all the support information you need - including extensive resource guides for each subject and information on all of our services.

ICT services

As one our students, you'll have access to state-of-the-art IT resources, including over 1,700 PC workstations, course-specific software, high-speed internet, and free WiFi across campus. You will receive full technical support from our own IT support service, iSolutions.

Medical services

We have two health practices at Highfield Campus – the University Health Service and Highfield Health. They provide a full range of health care services which are open to all registered students and their families.

Sports facilities

As part of the Solent, Southampton is a great place to take part in a variety of water and sailing sports. You can visit the Isle of Wight for Cowes Week, one of the biggest sailing events of the year in the south.

The University Watersports Centre offers a wide range of Royal Yachting Associated and British Canoe Union approved watersports courses which are internationally recognised. Activities take place at one of our three Watersports Centres: University Watersports Centre, Southampton Sailing Club and the National Oceanography Centre.

The Watersports Centre is also the site of the University Rifle Range where alongside Air Rifle Shooting sessions we offer a variety of activities for individuals and groups.

Accreditation

A number of our postgraduate programmes provide a higher level of accredition with the BPS. They are also approved by the Health Professions Council, which would then allow you to practice legally on the UK under a title such as Health Psychologist.
