Oxford Brookes University

Oxford Brookes University offers a world-class student experience in a beautiful city with a rich educational history that goes back centuries. Join one of the UK's leading modern universities, with a global reputation for teaching excellence, exciting student life and strong links with business and industry.

History

Oxford Brookes University began life as the Oxford School of Art in 1865.

Five years later the School of Science was incorporated. In 1891 the School was taken over by the Technical Instruction Committee (part of Oxford City Council), and renamed Oxford City Technical School.

Over the years there were more merges and name changes. Finally in 1992 it was named Oxford Brookes University.

Education

High-quality teaching lies at the heart of Oxford Brookes.

We are home to 11 National Teaching Fellows - the most prestigious award for excellence in higher education teaching. Our National Teaching Fellows work across a range of subjects from geography and architecture to business and education. Our academics also take part in innovative schemes which add value to their teaching.

Every year, our students get the opportunity to recognise members of staff who have made a real difference to their learning experience. In the Brookes Union Teaching Awards for 2018, more than 180 nominations were received for both academic and support staff.

Research

Our 3 strategic objectives

1. To pursue and support research of the highest quality that is, or has the potential to become, recognised as internationally excellent or world-leading.

2. To promote and support collaborations and partnerships across the institution and with external partners locally, nationally and globally.

3. To enhance the impact of our research in its broadest terms, and widen dissemination of our research for the benefit of our communities, whether local, regional, national or global, including our staff and students.

Career

The Information Team is the first point of contact for all enquiries to Careers.

We provide a skilled triage service to discuss your queries with you, gather information, and determine the most appropriate form of support. Within the Team, we can help with a wide range of your careers-related needs including CV and covering letter reviews, and initial information and advice on career planning and job searching.

Taking a coaching approach, we work with you to help you identify your goals, explore your options and develop skills, tools and strategies that empower you to progress with your career planning and build your confidence in researching and making decisions about your next steps.
