Leuphana University of Lüneburg is a public corporation under the auspices of a public foundation, they are legally represented by President Sascha Spoun.

History

Ori­gi­nal­ly foun­ded in 1946 as a teacher-trai­ning col­le­ge, Leu­pha­na Uni­ver­si­ty Lüne­burg was gran­ted uni­ver­si­ty sta­tus in 1989. The uni­ver­si­ty be­ca­me a foun­da­ti­on un­der pu­blic law in 2004 and mer­ged with the Uni­ver­si­ty of Ap­p­lied Sci­en­ces North-East Lo­wer Sa­x­o­ny in 2005.

Research

Leuphana University of Lüneburg understands its role as theme-oriented university dedicated to the current research issues affecting the civil society of the 21st century. In order to facilitate necessary subject-overarching research, Leuphana’s research activities are installed within four university-wide, inter- and cross-disciplinary “Research Initiatives”, namely: education, culture, management and business activity, and sustainability. Each of Leuphana’s four faculties directs one of the knowledge initiatives. Researchers within the research initiatives apply an inter- and cross-disciplinary method to expand on a number of cross-sectional topics

Student services

We offer support on choosing courses, the application process and during the course, e.g. making decisions, learning organisation or career planning. We take time to respond to your questions and advise you according to your needs in individual and group counselling sessions. You can access individual counselling sessions at short notice during the open consultation hours or by making an appointment through the Infoportal

Housing services

Stu­dents in Lüne­burg live eit­her in halls of re­si­dence, which are lo­ca­ted on or clo­se to the cam­pus or in the city cent­re, or in pri­va­te rooms or apart­ments. Whi­le only stu­dents live in the halls of re­si­dence, stu­dents also live to­ge­ther with working peop­le in the pri­va­te apart­ments. Both in the halls of re­si­dence and in pri­va­te apart­ments, the­re are usual­ly mi­xed-gen­der flat-sharing com­mu­nities (WGs), in which the kit­chen and ba­throom are sha­red, but each fl­at­ma­te has its own be­droom. Sha­red rooms are unusu­al in Ger­ma­ny, ex­cept for a short stay in a youth hos­tel. Stu­dents who pre­fer to live alo­ne, opt for a sin­gle apart­ment.

Library services

The Electronic Journals Library  pro­vi­des ac­ces to li­cen­s­ed tit­les as well as open­ly avail­ab­ly sci­en­ti­fic jour­nals. It con­ta­ins ap­pro­xi­mate­ly 34.000 tit­les. We stri­ve to con­ti­nous­ly grow our e-book collec­tion, which cur­rent­ly con­sists of ap­pro­xi­mate­ly 161.000 tit­les. All tit­les can be found through LUX or the catalogue.

Campus life

Leu­pha­na’s cam­pus is a bust­ling place whe­re uni­ver­si­ty mem­bers come to­ge­ther for a wide ran­ge of ac­tivi­ties to de­ve­lop their skills – whi­le stu­dy­ing, teaching, working, at sports, at cul­tu­ral events, in mee­ting and com­mu­ni­ca­ting, or to par­ti­ci­pa­te in one of the many in­itia­ti­ves.

Uni­ver­si­ty sports of­fers stu­dents an en­er­gy boost. Cour­ses, trips, events, meets, an eli­te ath­le­tics pro­gram and sports for Leu­pha­na em­ployees are among our attrac­tive and po­pu­lar of­fe­rings.  

Leuphana University of Lüneburg received a system accreditation by the ACQUIN agency in 2014. The accreditation of the management system of their programmes of study has been guaranteed.
