Linköping University - Faculty of Arts and Sciences

The Faculty of Arts and Sciences offers bachelor's programmes, master's programmes and single-subject courses within some 40 subjects areas encompassing behavioural sciences, economics and business administration, commercial law, humanities, computer science, natural sciences and social sciences.

History

One important objective for the faculty is to sustain and at the same time continuously develop the global cooperation initiated back in the 1970s when Linköping University acquired full university status.

Through various agreements, exchange programmes, financial support from the EU-commission and networks, the faculty today has cooperative ties to around hundred universities in twenty countries.

Education

Since the faculty houses both traditional disciplines and interdisciplinary studies, students may seek a broad outlook or specialize and thus create unique academic profiles. Further, they may choose studies taught in Swedish or a choice of studies taught in English. Problem-based learning, case studies and personal initiatives are vital components of the faculty's education.

Research

At the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, we strive to build up profiled, border-crossing and multidisciplinary research environments. Within these environments and within the graduate schools affiliated to the faculty both disciplinary and interdisciplinary research training is carried out.

Student services

The faculty welcomes international students interested in the faculty's education and research areas: behavioural sciences, economics and business administration, commercial law, humanities, computer science, natural sciences and social sciences. Annually, between 300 and 400 international students take part in the faculty's courses and programmes; a figure which heavily increases when the number of international students visiting the other three faculties is added.

Most international undergraduates spend their time here as exchange students; students who visit LiU and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences on the basis of a bilateral agreement (e.g. Socrates/Erasmus) between LiU and their home university.
