History
Starting with 1971, just in the year of the bi-centenary of Reşiţa’s factories – the technical higher education, the first step being done by the setting of the Engineering Institute, which was initially subordinated to the Polytechnic Institute “Traian Vuia” of Timisoara, a very prestigious educational institute of European fame.
Distance Learning Courses
Besides the numerous facilities offered to our students and the endowment of this university: engineering laboratories where students can use and do research on machines of the latest technology and with performance software and specialty rooms for the humanistic domains, where students can research books in the domain studies, we can also mention the Classic and electronic library, with 3 reading and study rooms with access to book shelves and to the internet. The "Eftimie Murgu" University library has a number of 81136 volumes, 49 national periodicals subscriptions and 13 international, electronic documentation resources, PhD Thesis et many others.
Students may also access an important collection of international law books in Romanian, English and French held by the Centre of Research for the Protection of the Environment and Cultural Assets in the European Area ("Victor Duculescu").
"Eftimie Murgu" University also holds an accredited publishing house and a multiplication centre.
The "Eftimie Murgu" University of Resita offers to its students support services of the best quality. The accommodation of students is assured by the university hostel with a capacity of 324 persons, distributed in 108 rooms. In addition, in the D building of our Resita Campus we have other 9 rooms that can accommodate 18 persons, being destined to international students, for Erasmus students from partner universities or other guest of our university. All the rooms have showers, internet connection, TV cable and modern furniture. Meals can be taken in the university canteen situated next to the hostel or in the university campus, which can serve a total of 550 students at a time.
Students can participate in extracurricular activities offered by the Students´ Culture Home, which organizes cultural and artistic events and hosts clubs like: The Ensemble of Romanian folk songs and dances "Flori de Mai/May Flowers", the Centre of Career Management, the Sports Dance Club "Dream Dance" The PHASER band, the SLIDE band, the literary club "UNIVERSITAS" and several other circles of photography, theatre and archery.
Sports students can join the Sports Club which organizes performance and mass sports activities, having at their disposal a gym and a fitness hall.
Students may also join two student associations: The student League, which represents the rights and professional interests of our students and stimulates their participation in the educational act and in the social, economic and cultural life. Among the activities organized by them we can mention: "Freshmen ball", "Students´ Days", "Volunteering fair", "Tourism Fair" and many other. Another association is the Cogito Association the mission of which it to stimulate youth involvement in social life.
Another opportunity offered to our students is represented by the ERASMUS programme, which offers and facilitates students´ mobility around the world. Since 1990 "Eftimie Murgu" University has established a number of 31 partnerships with universities from Germany, France, Italy, Greece, Belgium, Poland, Turkey, Serbia and the Republic of Moldavia.
In 2012 the "Eftimie Murgu" University is institutionally accredited as a result of the external assessment performed by the Romanian Agency of Quality Assessment in Higher Education (ARACIS) and is granted the highest grade: High Degree of Confidence. The same year, the quality management system of the university is certified according to the standard SR EN ISO 9001:008 as a result of the external assessment performed by TÜV Austria.
