What is an Online Study in Pedagogy?

part of Education & Training

Pedagogy is the study of teaching and training people, especially in academic contexts. It relies heavily on knowledge from Educational Psychology and explores various aspects, like teaching styles, teaching theory, evaluation, and feedback. Pedagogy also examines the aims of education and the best methods to achieve academic goals.

Generally, there are four main pedagogical approaches: behaviourism (teacher-centred), constructivism (student-centred), social constructivism (teacher-guided, but student-centred), and liberationism (democracy-focused, student voice is central).

Pedagogy aims to answer questions like: Which are the latest and most effective teaching methods? Which are the best education systems in the world and what are they doing differently? How to attract and maintain the curiosity of pupils and students throughout the curriculum? How to integrate new technologies in the classroom and lesson plans?

Students can choose from different Pedagogy subdisciplines: Music Pedagogy, Sports Pedagogy, Social Pedagogy, Kinesiology Pedagogy, Cultural Pedagogy, and others.

A typical Pedagogy curriculum includes subjects like Human Development, Diversity in Youth Care, Critical Perspectives in Education, Research Methodologies, Pedagogy in Practice, Intercultural Education, Curriculum Development, Assessment and Evaluation, Ethics, Teaching and Supervision, etc.

Pedagogy graduates have found employment in primary or secondary teaching, as curriculum developers, or education policy analysts. A pedagogue can also occupy various kinds of jobs, and ca work in retirement homes, prisons, orphanages, and Human Resource Management.
