Open University of Hong Kong

The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) is certainly a success story, not only as a provider of quality higher education, but also as a well-managed self-financing entity. From a small institution with humble beginnings, the OUHK has evolved from primarily a distance learning institution to become a full-fledged university providing full-time undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Established by the Hong Kong Government in 1989 as a provider of distance education, OUHK began offering full-time programmes in 2001. Over the years we have grown into a leader in open and flexible education in the Asia Pacific region, and our full-time face-to-face programmes for qualified secondary school leavers are on par with other established universities across Hong Kong.

The University responds dynamically to market trends by tailoring our professional programmes to industry needs and in turn providing our students with clear, reliable career paths. Our signature programmes include areas in high-demand such as Nursing, Physiotherapy, Creative Arts, Testing and Certification, and many more.

Research Office (RO), from the University Research Centre (URC) of the past, is the centralized unit of the Open University of Hong Kong facilitating research activities of the University, supporting research carried out by staff of the University and coordinating development projects with external funding.

Students’ employability is always our priority. Through schemes like our Career HeadStart Programme, internship lab on campus and other career opportunities, students can gain valuable work experience and increase their marketability. Our Open InnoChallenge programme cultivates students’ creativity and entrepreneurial spirts while allowing them to learn from industry mentors.
