The Birla Institute of Technology & Science, BITS Pilani is an all-India Institute for higher education. The primary motive of BITS is to "train young men and women able and eager to create and put into action such ideas, methods, techniques and information".

History

What started in early 1900s as a small school, blossomed into a set of colleges for higher education, ranging from the Humanities to Engineering until 1964 when all these colleges amalgamated to culminate into a unique Indian University of International standing.

Education

    Over the years, BITS has provided the highest quality technical education to students from all over India admitted on the basis of merit. Its graduates may be found throughout the world in all areas of engineering, science and commerce. BITS symbolizes the maturing of Indian technical ability and "can-do" entrepreneurial spirit, especially as derived from the private sector. BITS is located in the Vidya Vihar campus adjacent to the town of Pilani in Rajasthan.

Research

Research is an integral and important part of any higher education system. BITS Pilani, actively promotes research among its staff and students. In addition to basic research, which is the backbone of any applied research, the Institute also gives adequate importance and support to applied research. 

Career

BITS Pilani is looking for potential candidates having a PhD degree in a suitable discipline from a reputed University/Institute for the position of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor and working in the focus area of AAPCAIR. The successful applicants would be regular faculty members in one of the Departments of the Institute, and will also have the opportunity to be part of shaping research being undertaken at APPCAIR.

Housing services

Limited rooms are available at hostels/guest house for participants on a first come first serve basis. 

Library services

Library has room for up to 8,000 students, offers 738 open access study places and 246 open-access IT work stations.  

  • Our collections contain over half a million items, including:
  • Around 3,000 current journal titles
  • Over 20,000 electronic resources, including databases, journals and ebooks
  • A substantial media (CD and DVD) collection.

Campus life

    The Institute is fully residential and hostel accommodation is provided to all students. Permission to become day-scholar may be granted only under exceptional circumstances where student's parents or close relatives are residents of Pilani. There are eleven hostels for boys and one hostel complex for girls. The hostel rooms are fully furnished. Common room facilities with Cable TV and telephone are available in each hostel. Internet connectivity has been provided in all hostel rooms. Solar water heating systems are provided in all the hostels.

Sports facilities

    Recreational Activity Forum (RAF) that comes under the Student Welfare Division regularly organizes film shows for the BITS community. Currently, RAF organizes twelve, English and Hindi movies each, through the semester.

Student clubs

While the actual management of student activities is the responsibility of the Union & other bodies, the Division provides necessary support. The Students’ Union operates various clubs, including Music, Dance, Hindi Drama, English Drama, Hindi Press, English Press, Creative Activities, Mime, Photography, and Poetry Clubs, English Language Activities Society, and Hindi Activities Society. There are also several departments, which help organize various student events.

BITS, Pilani has been accredited by the National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC) with 'A' grade with a CGPA of 3.45 on a four point scale after visiting its Pilani, K.K Birla Goa & Hyderabad campuses in 2016.
