Faculty of Arts and Human Sciences

In the Faculty of Arts and Human Sciences we actively encourage our students to constantly explore and consider the real world implications and applications of the subjects they are studying. The Arts and Human Sciences, as much as the Sciences, are very central to the way we live and the world we aim to build, and often interlock with the latter in creative ways for the sake of knowledge advancement, our well being, that of other people and the wider environment.

History

The University of Surrey was established on 9 September 1966 with the grant of its Royal Charter, but its roots go back to a late nineteenth-century concern to provide greater access to further and higher education for the poorer inhabitants of London.

Education

Our four areas of study within the Faculty are:

  • Undergraduate
  • Postgraduate Taught
  • Postgraduate Research
  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Research

The Faculty hosts a large number of focused research groups and centres, with strong leadership and mentoring to support and encourage staff, and to facilitate coordinated bidding for major research opportunities.

Research Centres

  • Digital World Research Centre (DWRC)
  • Institute of Sound Recording (IoSR)
  • International Guitar Research Centre (IGRC)
