History

Founded in 1932, Lewis is a dynamic, coeducational university offering more than 80 undergraduate majors and programs of study, 37 graduate programs, and two doctoral programs.

With 6,400 undergraduate and graduate students, Lewis University is the 7th largest private, not-for-profit university in Illinois.

Housing services

The best way to experience all that college life has to offer you is by enjoying the independence of living in our university residence halls. Living on campus will surround you with friends, fun and endless opportunities to pursue your academic and co-curricular interests. With a diverse student body and a wide variety of activities on campus, it’s easy to find a place to fit in and make memories that will last a lifetime.

Library services

The Lewis University Library will be a hub of intellectual activity fostering synergy and sanctuary in the quest for knowledge and wisdom. The library will offer diverse and dynamic resources and collections to its learning community in the spirit of academic inquiry and civic engagement.

Medical services

Due to COVID-19 precautions and in accordance with the CDC and local public health authorities, Health Services will be available by appointment only for the 2020-2021 academic year. We are unable to offer walk-in services at this time.

Nurses are available for phone consultation Monday through Friday 8:30am-4:00 pm by calling The Center for Health & Counseling Services at (815) 836-5455.

Campus life

The Lewis main campus in Romeoville is a picturesque 410-acre suburban setting which houses 1,300 students in twelve residence halls, all within walking distance of well-equipped classrooms, the library, the Student Recreation and Fitness Center, the Student Union, and Sancta Alberta Chapel. The campus is 35 miles southwest of the world-class city of Chicago.

Sports facilities

Lewis University has long recognized that a quality education includes both classroom and co-curricular opportunities. The University has endorsed the concept of a healthy mind in a healthy body through the funding of the Student Recreation and Fitness Center.

Here, fitness, wellness, intramural, and recreational programs and activities are provided for the students, faculty/staff, alumni, spouses, and children, as well as other Lewis University community members. This provides a unique environment for students to interact with other members of the larger University community.

Student clubs

The Office of Student Activities is the resource center where all organizations come if they have questions about putting on an Activity/Event and filling out activity forms; seek advice or direction; receive mail for the organization; or if they have questions about effective meeting planning, organizational development, situational leadership, recruitment and retention of members, reserve a room, or just get some ideas on how to best run their club! The office is located in the Brother James Gaffney Student Center, room JG-104
