About

History

In 2014, York University created the School of Continuing Studies, one of the largest in Canada, and committed to becoming a leader in this field. Today, the School serves nearly 2,000 students through continuing professional education, pathways degrees and English language programs; drawing students from 50 countries. The School attracts international attention for its innovative program designs.

Education

Education is future-oriented — it's about development and growth even when we are studying the past. Education is giving or receiving knowledge, developing the powers of reasoning and judgement, using inspiration, tapping into creativity, taking risks and developing emotional and intellectual resilience. In our society, education implies school and whether you teach others or are in the process of learning yourself, education focuses on knowledge and on the intellect. Through the fine art of bringing out what is latent in a person, we learn as we teach.

Career

Career success requires more than just specialized technical knowledge for a particular field. To excel, you must develop the competencies top employers tell us they value most, such as emotional intelligence, problem solving, verbal communications, business acumen, critical thinking and project management. The focus on these professional competencies throughout the School’s post-graduate certificates will improve your leadership strength and effectiveness.

Services

Student services

The School of Continuing Studies includes Canada’s leading English Language Institute. We draw on that expertise to provide international students with additional tutoring if required.

Our staff is always open to answering any questions or concerns students may have about programs and anything else related to studying at York’s School of Continuing Studies. Our instructors are engaging and always helpful in learning how to apply the subject matter to real-world examples.

Housing services

Often called “a city of neighbourhoods,” Toronto is actually composed of many distinct, smaller areas that have their own unique culture. There are many different areas that students can choose to live. There is also a variety of on-campus living options available.

Library services

Our campuses feature student-focused and technology-enhanced learning spaces including six libraries and numerous computer labs.

Medical services

Health Insurance is available for an additional cost. There is a health walk-in clinic, dentist office, and pharmacy on campus.

Student Life

Campus life

York University’s Keele Campus is located in northwest Toronto and is easily accessible by public transit. Toronto is Canada’s largest city and is the capital of the province of Ontario. Located on the north shore of Lake Ontario, Toronto has a population of approximately 2.8 million people, making it the fourth-most populous city in North America.

Located 30 minutes from downtown Toronto, our campus offers a rigorous academic foundation balanced by real-world experiential education. At 457 acres of land, it is the largest post-secondary campus in Canada. Our campus is a blend of urban living and natural beauty, with York being home to woodlots, ponds, and wildlife.

Sports facilities

The University’s award-winning facilities are just as impressive as our innovative programs and groundbreaking research. Our campus features gym facilities, five sports fields, nine outdoor tennis courts, five squash courts, three dance/aerobic studios, an ice arena, a swimming pool, a fitness centre and a tennis stadium. The Canadian Open, an annual professional tennis tournament, takes place at the state of the art Aviva Centre.
