Student services

A student’s college career is a critical investment in their future. The UWM Division of Student Affairs is here to help all students feel like UWM is a place where they belong, where they are supported to succeed and have opportunities to get involved in meaningful and fun ways while connecting to one another and to UWM.

Housing services

University Housing provides a home to more than 4,000 students every year. Roughly 40% of our first-year residents will live in a Living Learning Community. Students who live in University Housing have, on average, a higher GPA than students who live off-campus or commute from home.

Library services

The UWM Libraries—the Golda Meir Library on the Milwaukee campus and two branches, the UWM at Washington County Library and the UWM at Waukesha Library—are committed to promoting student success, research excellence, and community engagement at UWM, one of the nation’s top research universities.

Medical services

Norris Health Center & University Counseling provides on-campus health, mental health, and health promotion services and is here to assist you in identifying, understanding and responding to your health care needs. Our staff will be your partner, providing treatment if you are ill, injured, or in distress, and assist you in understanding your health needs.

Campus life

Our 104-acre main campus on Milwaukee’s east side is just blocks from Lake Michigan and home to 11 of UWM’s 15 schools and colleges. Notable landmarks include the Kenwood Interdisciplinary Research Complex, which opened in 2015, and the Lubar Entrepreneurship Center and UWM Welcome Center, which opened in the same building in spring 2019.

Sports facilities

Reflecting the varied leisure and wellness needs of the University community, UREC provides extensive access to a widespread range of recreational activities and services. The Department offers programming which encompasses the competitive, passive, social, cultural, and instructional aspects of recreational activity. In addition, UREC manages the University’s recreational and athletic facilities offering recreation, sport, and numerous multi-use options for student and university events.

UWM's regional accrediting body is the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Accreditation reviews are done on a ten-year cycle. UWM was reviewed in the Spring 2019 semester.
