On Dec. 1, 1906, a delegation of Statesboro representatives traveled to the DeSoto Hilton in Savannah, where they won the bid to establish a school of higher education in Statesboro.

With 141 degree programs at the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels, Georgia Southern has been designated a public Carnegie Doctoral/R2 institution and serves 26,054 students from all 50 states, Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico as well as 102 nations. With three vibrant campuses — the Statesboro Campus, the Armstrong Campus in Savannah and the Liberty Campus in Hinesville — Georgia Southern offers an attractive campus environment that encourages learning, discovery and personal growth.

As a Public Impact Research university, we are designing new protocols to reduce musculoskeletal injuries to soldiers and first responders, innovating in logistics technology, exploring food production through sustainable aquaculture, integrating curriculum and professional development into Quality Rated Early Learning Centers.

Our research, scholarship, public engagement, and creative activity is not confined inside an ivory tower. Faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates all engage in research that contributes significantly to the university’s $1.4 billion economic impact on the coastal region and that makes Georgia Southern a leading public-research university in the Southeast.
