As a rapidly growing centre of industry and innovation in the eastern Greater Toronto Area, throughout the 1980s and early 1990s leaders in Durham Region cherished the dream of establishing its own university. At the time, the number of residents in Durham Region was projected to approach nearly one million by 2021.

First-year students are encouraged to register as soon as they receive their letter of acceptance to UOIT. As one of Canada's youngest and most dynamic universities, UOIT is rapidly growing in reputation and in enrolment at the undergraduate and graduate levels. To address that growth and ensure our students continue to have access to an outstanding learning environment, UOIT established a downtown Oshawa location and has added new classrooms, labs, study areas and state-of-the-art learning facilities at the north Oshawa location.
In addition to being the hockey home of the Ontario Hockey League's Oshawa Generals, who play in downtown Oshawa at the spectacular General Motors Centre sports and entertainment complex, the region has a wealth of sports facilities, fitness centres and golf courses. You'll find downhill and cross-county skiing facilities within 30 minutes of the campus. As well, you can enjoy hiking, walking, in-line skating and biking along many scenic trails.
