History

The University of Winnipeg received its charter in 1967 but its roots date back more than 130 years. The founding colleges were Manitoba College (1871), and Wesley College (1888), which merged to form United College in 1938.

Education

UWinnipeg offers high-quality 3-year, 4-year, and honours degree programs at the undergraduate level recognized around the world. The University also offers graduate programs, the Professional, Applied and Continuing Education (PACE) Program, the English Language Program, The Collegiate which is our high school located on campus offering grades 9-12 Canadian high school curriculum, and UWinnipeg Pre-University Pathway Porgram for academically strong students under British curriculum who do not meet our undergraduate entrance requirements.

Research

The University of Winnipeg is a campus full of innovative and diverse research programs. UWinnipeg is proud to support research centres and institutes such as Prairie Climate Centre, Oral History Centre, and the Center for Research in Cultural studies. The University hosts numerous Canada Research Chairs and other research chairs, leaders, and experts in all disciplines.

Renovated Duckworth Centre & new Health, Wellness and Healing Centre

  • Klinic Health Services is an on-campus clinic on the first floor of Duckworth Centre. It provides medical appointments, health information, and workshops to students, faculty, and staff.

  • Bill Wedlake Fitness Centre is the UWinnipeg gym located in Duckworth Centre. It features state-of-the-art cardio equipment, weight machines, and free weights.
  • The Faculty of Kinesiology and its academic and athletic programs are housed in Duckworth Centre.
  • Traditional and alternative healing services are also available.

Student clubs

The University of Winnipeg Students’ Association (UWSA) is a student elected organization on campus representing over 10,000 students. UWSA provides services such as health plan, a student bus pass called U-Pass, an Info Booth providing printing and postal services, and a foodbank for students in need. The UWSA advocates for students and puts together various student events.
