History

The admittance of a founding class of 64 members was admitted in August 1996 ended a three-decade effort to plan, secure legislative authorization, and find funding to establish the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Pharmacy.

In 1971, Texas Legislature established the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center as a separate University from Texas Tech University.

Education

Welcome to Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, where a dedication to education, patient care and research has made an impact on the health of West Texas and beyond for almost 40 years.

To date we have trained more than 10,000 health care professionals, and we meet the health care needs of more than 2.5 million people who live throughout a vast 108-county area stretching from the Texas Panhandle south to the Permian Basin and west into Eastern New Mexico.

Research

The Research Department is the primary resource and catalyst for advancing research at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Our mission is to promote and support research by providing high quality service to investigators, foster new research initiatives, promote the prevention of disease and the treatment of illness, motivate and educate future leaders in health sciences, and serve as an advocate for the value of research in an educational setting.

At the Office of Professional Affairs, we know that Professional Development is intricately tied to the performance of a student's profession as part of his or her education. For this reason, we seek to help students in any way we can with finding fellowships and residencies while at TTUHSC School of Pharmacy.

Student services

Student Services at TTUHSC El Paso oversees support services to all students on the El Paso campus. This office collaborates with the Student Affairs staff in each school. Our goal is to assist you, the student, to have a positive, safe and rewarding career.

Library services

The TTUHSC Delia Montes-Gallo Library of El Paso serves the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, the Gayle Greve Hunt School of Nursing, and health professionals throughout the U.S. - Mexico border area.The library is located in two buildings: The Academic Education Center (AEC) houses Clinical Sciences materials, while The Medical Education Building (MEB) houses Basic Science materials.

Campus life

In April 2016, the Texas Tech University System Board of Regents reviewed the TTUHSC campus carry policy as part of efforts to implement the provisions of Senate Bill 11.  The TTUHSC campus carry policy was developed with input from various stakeholders and through the efforts of the TTUHSC Campus Carry Working Group, which sought to balance the needs of our widely distributed campuses and diverse campus body. 

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award baccalaureate, masters, doctoral, and professional degrees.
