National Institute For Bioprocessing Research and Training (NIBRT)

The National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training (NIBRT) is a global centre of excellence for training and research in bioprocessing. NIBRT is located in a new, world class facility in Dublin, Ireland.

History

NIBRT is based on an innovative collaboration between University College Dublin, Trinity College Dublin, Dublin City University and the Institute of Technology, Sligo. NIBRT was primarily funded by the Government of Ireland through Ireland’s inward investment promotion agency.

Education

NIBRT’s unique bioprocessing training facility allows undergraduate and post graduate students the opportunity to learn and practice complex technical bioprocessing procedures and to enhance their skills using the most modern equipment and facilities available.

NIBRT provides a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes which are specifically tailored to meet the needs of students who wish to develop their careers in the bioprocessing industry.

Research

NIBRT research is based on a foundation of scientific excellence and is focused on delivering practical solutions to the biopharma industry. Our research programmes cover all aspects of the biopharma manufacturing process. Some of our key themes include:

  • Cell line development
  • Media characterization and optimization
  • PAT / QbD*
  • Glycosylation
  • Full product characterization

Campus life

The NIBRT facility is a purpose-built, multi-functional building which replicates the most modern industrial bioprocessing facility. The total building area is approximately 6,500 m² over two floors.

At the heart of the NIBRT building is the bioprocessing pilot plant, consisting of extensive upstream, downstream, fill-finish and the associated analytical facilities. These facilities are all operated in a realistic GMP simulated, operational manufacturing environment.

The facility also provides extensive research laboratory areas with ample capacity for our research teams and for our client companies. Our training rooms can accommodate up to 100 delegates and we have extensive canteen and car parking facilities
