Capital University

Capital University is a private four-year undergraduate institution and graduate school located in the capital city of Columbus, Ohio. At Capital, we transform lives through higher education, and our purpose is purpose. Through an immersive, high-impact and convergent approach to teaching and learning, we find, feed and refine the role each of us was born for — no matter who we are.

History

Since its founding by the Lutheran Church in 1830 and charter as a university in 1850, Capital has been an agent in shaping engaged citizens and purposeful leaders who improve their industries, communities and society.

Education

We offer 60 majors and more than 50 minors in the areas of Music, Arts and Communication, Business and Management, Education, Humanities, Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Computer Science, Nursing and Health, and Social Sciences. We offer graduate degrees and/or post-degree certification in Education, Law, Theology, Nursing, Business and Music Education.

Research

The Office of Institutional Research (OIR) at Capital University serves as a repository for information and data on the University's student, faculty and staff populations. The OIR also provides data analysis and interpretation for use in campus planning and policy decisions.

Career

Career Development assists students and alumni with the process of identifying and implementing career goals that complement their learning, development and success. We help you figure out what you want to do, and then help you do it. We take the whole person into account as we advise students and alumni on issues of career satisfaction, life balance and contribution to society.

Student services

The Center For Global Education is responsible for advising and assisting international students with the transition of living and studying in the United States and assisting students in developing global opportunities such as study abroad and involvement in campus international activities.

Housing services

In Saylor-Ackermann Hall, most rooms are doubles, however some triple rooms are available, with community restrooms and shower facilities on each floor. Each bedroom comes tiled and furnished with a standard size mattress and bed frame, built in dresser (in Saylor or a wardrobe in Ackermann), desk, and desk chair.

The Lohman Complex, houses first-year and upper-class. Rooms come in double, triple, and quad occupancy styles, with community bathrooms and shower facilities on each floor. All of residence hall rooms come fully furnished.

Cotterman Hall houses 136 students. The floor plan is unique to Capital, with eight to twelve individual rooms opening directly into a common living area.

Library services

Blackmore Library contributes to the University’s mission by providing access to resources and services, supporting information literacy, and curating strong collections. We enhance scholarship and personal development for the University community by creating an environment conducive to inquiry, research, and collaboration.

ICT services

Client Services Team is all about the end user experience, whether that be Student, Faculty, or Staff. This includes management of the Help Desk, University IDs, Classroom A/V technology, and all campus computers, including labs and public workstations.

Medical services

The Office of Disability Services (ODS) provides individualized services for students, faculty/staff, and other community members with disability related needs. Service areas include admissions, academics, housing, employment, facilities accessibility, and social/personal issues related to disability.

Sports facilities

The Capital Center is Capital's showpiece athletic center. The 126,000 square foot facility was completed in 2001 and features:

  • A 2,100 seat arena
  • The 2,500 seat Bernlohr Stadium
  • An outdoor track
  • Locker rooms
  • A field house
  • Fitness equipment
  • A monitored weight room with Hammer Strength equipment.
