History

Founded in 1887 as a school for the education of American Indians, The University of North Carolina at Pembroke now serves a distinctly diverse student body and encourages inclusion and appreciation for the values of all people.  

Education

UNC Pembroke exists to promote excellence in teaching and learning, at the master’s and undergraduate levels, in an environment of free inquiry, interdisciplinary collaboration, and rigorous intellectual standards.

Through their participation in research, UNC Pembroke’s faculty, students and staff embrace engaged scholarship as a means to further the Institution’s mission to “enhance the intellectual, cultural, economic and social life of the region.”

The Career Center supports the mission of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke by providing students and alumni with resources and opportunities that promote comprehensive career development, life-long learning, fulfilling lives, and engaged and responsible citizenship. 

We partner with academic and student development departments as well as with employers and community stakeholders to design and implement collaborative student-centered programs that meet the needs of diverse students and facilitate self-discovery, experiential learning, career exploration, education, and planning, and employment readiness.

Housing services

The Office of Housing and Residence Life offers residential students the opportunity to be part of a community that is clean, safe and respectful; a community that is interactive and conducive to academic, educational, and social development. 

Library services

Resources enabling the Mary Livermore Library to fulfill its mission include over 481,000 cataloged volumes, over 172,000 licensed ebooks, over 58,000 subscriptions to print and electronic serials, access to more than 167 databases, special collections that include the Charlie Rose Collection, government documents, and current reading and media materials. 

ICT services

The Division of Information Technology (DoIT) is committed to providing you with support and services to ensure your successful use of technology. Our goal is to anticipate needs and be proactive in our development and delivery of services and support options. 

Medical services

The University of North Carolina at Pembroke Office of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) is dedicated to the protection of human life and our campus environment. EH&S acknowledges the close relationship between the environment, work, and human health and safety. 

Campus life

First year freshman students who meet the residency requirement, but do not submit a Housing Agreement or are not approved to be exempt from the requirement will automatically be assigned on-campus housing. The student will be required to pay room and meal charges for the academic year to satisfy the first year freshman residency requirement.

Sports facilities

Campus Recreation believes that physical activity and healthy life choices are vital to a person’s total well-being. Based upon this belief, a broad and diversified program of recreational activities are provided for the campus community.

Students at UNC Pembroke have the opportunity to participate in Intramurals, Club Sports, Adventureships, and can make use of the Campbell Wellness Center and the University Pool.

Involvement in Fraternities and Sororities is considered to be the premier leadership experience on the college campus today.

Fraternity and Sorority Life provides an opportunity for lifetime membership in an organization committed to values-based leadership.
