History

In November 1968, the New Jersey legislature approved a $202.5 million capital construction bond issue, including $15 million earmarked to build a state college in southern New Jersey. The bond issue was the culmination of years of intense political wrangling over proposed sites for the new institution of higher education. 

Education

Stockton University’s mission is to develop engaged and effective citizens with a commitment to life-long learning and the capacity to adapt to change in a multi-cultural, interdependent world.  As a public university, Stockton provides an environment for excellence to a diverse student body, including those from underrepresented populations, through an interdisciplinary approach to liberal arts, sciences and professional education.

Research

  • Stockton University provides vast undergraduate research opportunities in many fields of study. The knowledge gained by hands-on research experience not only enriches the learning process, but prepares the student for post-graduate career opportunities. Research combined with class work gives students full knowledge and experience in their fields of study.
  • A unique educational and networking event, the Graduate Research Symposium encourages interdisciplinary exchange, bringing together graduate students from the sciences and humanities. The symposium is an exciting opportunity for current graduate students to showcase the research they have been working hard on throughout their graduate career.

 Stockton offers a variety of clubs and organizations. This is a great way to meet new people and to find new interests. 

Library services

The mission of the Richard E. Bjork Library is to support the Stockton curriculum by offering services, materials, facilities and access to information necessary for study and research, the sum of which advances the University's goals of excellence in teaching and dedication to learning.

ICT services

The Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) provides services in the following major functional areas: Academic Computing, Administrative Computing, End-User Training and Support, Communications and Networking, and Systems Administration and Operation.

Medical services

The Office of Risk Management & Environment / Health / Safety serves Stockton University by eliminating and/or reducing risk to our most valuable resources, our students, visitors, employees, community, and property.

Campus life

Stockton University’s Galloway, N.J. campus in the Pinelands National Reserve is reminiscent of one of America’s beautiful national parks. Beachfront living and learning is now available at the new residential campus in Atlantic City. We also have locations in Manahawkin, Hammonton and Woodbine.

Student clubs

Stockton University is home to more than 130 official student clubs and organizations including a Student Senate. The Office of Student Development oversees all student clubs and organizations.

There are student media organizations, including the Argo, a student-produced newspaper. WLFR 91.7 (Lake Fred Radio) is the FM radio station licensed to Stockton in 1984.SSTV Ch. 14, Stockton Student Television, is Stockton’s on-campus television station. Stockpot Literary Magazine is an annual literary publication featuring art, poetry and writing of Stockton students and alumni. The Stockton yearbook (The Path) is an historical record of the academic year.

Stockton University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
