History
The first students at the school that would become known as Fort Hays State University couldn't have envisioned how a prairie dog town would be transferred into a sprawling campus 100 years later. In fact, the first building ever inhabited by the school wasn't even located on the present-day campus.The infirmary at Fort Hays, a former army post that had been abandoned in 1889.

Housing services
Our Tiger family is deeply committed to ensuring that you have a wonderful on-campus living experience so that your home away from home feels wholly supportive and safe. For some, on-campus housing may be your first time living on your own or with a roommate, which then only helps to challenge yourself to learn more about your responsibilities and preferences. And, not only will you be learning about yourself, you’ll also be learning about those who are different than you through shared experiences. It’s all a part of what makes our Fort Hays State Tigers think ahead and get truly ready for the world outside.

ICT services
The Office of Technology Services maintains and supports all aspects of technology at Fort Hays State University, including enterprise administrative systems and applications, networking and infrastructure, telecommunications, information security, learning technologies, user support, training and documentation, technology purchasing, and desktop, lab and classroom support.
Medical services
The Student Health Center is committed to providing high-quality health care and educational outreach services. Our approach focuses on delivery of comprehensive and individualized care that emphasizes the promotion of personal wellness. Within the college community, we strive to empower students with knowledge designed to encourage healthy living.
Campus life
Fort Hays State's cozy, tree-filled campus is located in Hays, Kansas (on I-70, halfway between Kansas City and Denver). FHSU is a welcoming community in the heart of historic Hays, a community that celebrates its frontier roots and its modern sensibility - coffee shops, one-of-a-kind restaurants, shopping, and a vibrant arts scene.
Sports facilities
Situated adjacent to Lewis Field Stadium, the Schmidt-Bickle Training Facility was completed in July, 2013. This indoor training facility features a 55-yard, full width, synthetic turf football field with (1) end zone for use by the football program. Also included in the facility is a 5,000 square foot weight training room, four 60-meter long, synthetic surface running lanes, 2,500 square feet of equipment storage, restroom facilities, office space for the facility manager, which doubles as the officials' dressing room, and custodial support space.
