History

The University of Houston-Victoria began as an effort in the late 1960s by the local community to bring a higher learning institution to Victoria. In 1973, after meetings with Texas legislators, community leaders succeeded in establishing an off-campus center of the University of Houston called the University of Houston Victoria Center.

The University of Houston-Victoria (UHV), a dynamic destination institution serving Texas and the world, is dedicated to providing every student educational and leadership opportunities to become a successful professional and an engaged global citizen. Innovative educational activities challenge students to make meaningful connections between their learning and their lives in a complex world. UHV promotes economic development and advances quality of life through teaching, research, and service excellence.  

Research

The Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness supports UHV decision-making in planning, evaluation, and program assessment for accrediting bodies and other internal and external stakeholders. The mission is accomplished through data collection, analysis and reporting; providing training to others in these activities; and monitoring and tracking the assessment activities associated with the institutional effectiveness process.

Housing services

Welcome to Residence Life at the University of Houston-Victoria!

The Department of Residence Life staff is committed to your development, providing excellent customer service, and providing each resident with the necessary tools to be successful in an ever changing and diverse society. 

National research shows that students who live on campus perform better academically and graduate earlier than their off campus counterparts, so it is up to each student to take full advantage of this amazing opportunity. Living on campus will provide you with many new freedoms and personal choices, an experience in which you will meet student from across the country and around the globe. 

Library services

The VC/UHV Library is a joint library serving the Victoria College and the University of Houston-Victoria. The Main Library, built in 1973, is a 4 story building on the west side of the campus.  

We are committed to anticipating and satisfying the information and research needs of the Victoria College and University of Houston-Victoria communities. 

ICT services

Information Technology (IT) is pleased to offer a variety of support services including: password resets, account information, campus and student housing Wi-Fi, lab and classroom support, general troubleshooting assistance. 

Medical services

Students who live on the UHV Victoria campus or within 50 miles of UHV’s Victoria campus are eligible to use the Community Health Centers of South Central Texas as their primary care provider, without any other form of insurance.

The health center is conveniently located across Houston Highway from Jaguar Village, in front of the Citizens ER. The co-pay will be no more than $25 per visit.

College is a time to dream about and prepare for your life after graduation. But how do you turn your dreams and aspirations into reality? At UHV, it’s all about getting involved.

Campus Life is made up of Housing, Student Life & Services, Counseling, Career Services, Athletics and much more. We are all here to help you succeed, grow and enjoy your time at UHV. You also will find a great way to get involved through our online student engagement portal, JagSync.  

Regardless of your interest, there is no shortage of ways for students to get involved on campus.  We offer an endless array of fun activities, cultural events, leadership training, recreational sports and outdoor adventures. 

Sports facilities

Club Sports at UHV allows students with common interests in the sport of their choice to develop an organization that competes with other universities across the region and nation. Students are guided through the process of becoming a chartered organization and eventually become a functioning club team that can practice, fundraise, travel, and represent UHV in competition. Each club sport has a faculty or staff advisor that monitors and guides all club decisions in a way that best fits the students and the university.

Student organizations provide opportunities to enhance your collegiate experience. You will learn to network, make new friends, set and achieve goals, and discover new talents. The more involved you become, the more you will benefit from your educational experiences. As you grow at UHV, you will become part of a team that will bond you for a lifetime. The University of Houston-Victoria is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) to award bachelor's and master's degrees.
