History

Founded in 1875, IUP is a vibrant, comprehensive, research-based, teaching-focused, student-centered learning community.

Education

IUP has been ranked nationally as a "Best for Vets" university by Military Times.

Our community service earns national recognition, having been chosen for the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. IUP has been nationally ranked among socially responsible schools by Washington Monthly.

Research

We believe IUP’s strengths and resources can make the world better. To share our expertise, our centers and institutes offer services to business and industry, the community, government and human service agencies, educators, and more.

Housing services

A living-learning community is a community of students who live together in a university residential facility or a portion of the building, such as a floor or wing, and participate in academically and intellectually engaging learning activities designed specifically for them.

Research has shown that students in living-learning programs tend to have a smoother transition to college, higher grades, more mentoring from faculty, a stronger sense of civic engagement, and fewer problems with alcohol and other drug use.

Library services

Our mission is to provide an advanced, current, and relevant collection to support the academics and research performed by IUP faculty and students. We strive to incorporate the latest in information technology and library best practices to provide superb information support to the entire IUP community.

Medical services

Seventy-eight emergency telephones throughout the campus that connect directly to the police office and automatically dispatch officers to the scene. An extensive emergency-notification system to alert students and employees via cell phone, text messaging, and e-mail when an emergency situation occurs. More than 95 percent of IUP students have registered for this emergency-alert program.

Campus life

Students tell us they just got a feeling when they visited—that everything they wanted from a college was right here. It just felt right.

When you take a day to visit IUP, you open up possibilities. Picture yourself walking to class through the Oak Grove. Imagine eating dessert with your roommate in the new dining hall or studying in our library. Get a feel for the campus. Meet students and professors. Learn more about your options and the opportunities our students have to set themselves apart and stand out when they graduate.

Whether you’re just looking around, have already applied, or have been accepted into our next class, we warmly invite you to come and explore our beautiful campus.

IUP competes in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and is an NCAA Division II member.
