History

The University of Texas at Tyler is part of the prestigious University of Texas System that includes 14 institutions located throughout the state. Founded in 1971, UT Tyler today enrolls more than 10,000 students and consists of six colleges.

Research

The Office of Research and Scholarship (ORS) is a unit within the Office of Academic Affairs and is located on the third floor of Stewart Hall. The ORS facilitates, enhances and strengthens faculty and student research and scholarship by providing services from identifying funding sources to post-award management.  The ORS staff assist faculty and staff in achieving their research goals by helping them navigate the increasingly complex and competitive world of external funding sources.

Career

The University of Texas at Tyler Office of Career Success and Alumni Engagement offers guidance, resources, and support to help Patriot students and alumni navigate the career development process.

The Office of Career Success hosts several career fairs throughout the school year providing you with many opportunities to meet and engage with our students.

Student services

International Student Services (ISS) supports all F and J visa international students who attend UT Tyler for academic study. OIP is responsible for serving international students with their health and visa benefits such as visa adjustments, employment, travel, and re-entry into the country.

Housing services

Located on campus, all five housing facilities are conveniently a few minutes' walk from your classes, the library, student center and recreational facilities. Each housing facility is designed especially with UT Tyler students in mind and offers first-class living arrangements. Students interested in living on campus are encouraged to apply early.

UT Tyler Residence Life takes each student's safety very seriously and provides staff members on call 24 hours a day. In addition, university police patrol the buildings multiple times day and night.

Library services

The Robert R. Muntz Library provides access to thousands of digital books and a wide variety of electronic databases and periodicals. Students, faculty and staff, regardless of location, have access to online library resources and services. The physical library includes an array of print materials; a coffee shop, computers for student use, and Patriot Printing.

ICT services

The mission of the Campus Computing Center (CCC) is to support the academic endeavors of students, faculty and staff of the university by providing an information technology-based environment composed of the necessary computing resources and related support.

Medical services

The Office of Student Health and Wellness supports student learning at UT Tyler by creating opportunities, programs and policies empowering students to:

  • Reach their full potential.
  • Take responsibility for themselves and others.
  • Contribute to the creation of a healthy, safe and socially just learning environment.

Campus life

Our beautiful 259-acre Tyler campus is nestled along a lake surrounded by thick pine and oak forests, providing a picturesque location for study and recreation. For student convenience, we also maintain regional campuses in Palestineand Longview, as well as a location in Houston.

Sports facilities

The HPC is named for the family of Louise H. Ornelas, who has been an avid supporter of UT Tyler for many years. The center also includes the Jean Lancaster Academic Wing, Maytee Fisch Convocation Center, Jim and Bonna Bess Vaughn Recreation and Therapy Pool and the Meadows Student Lounge.

Other features of the facility include classrooms, laboratories, faculty offices, a gymnasium/convocation area with basketball and volleyball courts seating for over 2,000, indoor walking/jogging track, aerobics and free weights areas.
