History
The Thomas Gaunt House, located on the south edge of campus, was constructed during the 1870s and has been the home to all Northwest presidents since the institution’s founding 1905. Gaunt purchased the tract on May 4, 1860, added an additional 19 acres on March 31, 1864, and by 1882, his holding had grown to 72 acres.

Research
Northwest Missouri State University students published the first Tower Yearbook in 1917. Digital versions of the Tower yearbooks are available through 2009.

Student services
Each year, about 15 percent of our incoming freshmen and a number of transfer students begin their education at Northwest as a deciding student.
Northwest supports deciding students by offering a deciding student professional advisor to assist students through the major and career exploration process. With the assistance of the deciding student professional advisors, students will evaluate personal interests, abilities, needs and values and how each fits with a major or career.
Housing services

Library services
The Horace Mann Library is available for Horace Mann students and parents; and Northwest faculty, staff, and students. It is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The library is closed on days when school is not in session.
ICT services
All Northwest students (graduate and undergraduate) regardless of whether they are full-time or part-time and live on or off campus, are provided with a wireless-ready laptop computer. Northwest laptop models may vary between students depending on availability and enrollment status.
Medical services
Northwest provides health insurance to all benefit eligible employees and pay 100% of the premiums. Employees may elect to purchase coverage for one dependent or the entire family. If electing dependent coverage, the employee would be responsible for the additional premium cost through payroll deduction.

Northwest students have an opportunity to network, gain leadership skills, build creative skills and enhance the Bearcat experience through student organizations.
The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) was founded in 1895 as an independent higher education accreditor. The mission of HLC is to “Serving the common good by assuring and advancing the quality of higher learning.” HLC currently accredits over 1300 institutions of post-secondary education.
