History
Metropolitan State University was founded in 1971 as an upper-division university offering bachelor's degrees for working adults. Since then, it has achieved national prominence as an innovative, urban university that serves primarily older students of diverse backgrounds.
Education
The university will provide accessible, high-quality liberal arts, professional, and graduate education to the citizens and communities of the metropolitan area, with continued emphasis on underserved groups, including adults and communities of color.
Research
The Center for Psychological Research (CPR)'s mission is to support psychological research and the dissemination of research findings. CPR facilitates psychological, social and behavioral research efforts, particularly in diverse urban communities. The CPR supports research by the faculty and students at Metropolitan State University, but individuals at other institutions and in other areas are affiliated with the Center. Anyone conducting psychological, social, or behavioral research, particularly in urban contexts, may seek affiliation with the Center.

Housing services
Each student is unique and accommodations are based on the individual needs of the student. Center for Accessibility Resources works with students through an interactive process to determine what would be appropriate and reasonable for that individual. There is not exhaustive list of accommodations that are available to students. We work with each student to determine their accommodations, which may change over time depending on their disability and the courses and/or activities they are participating in.
Library services
Library and Information Services exists to fulfill the information needs and foster the intellectual growth of the Metropolitan State community. We achieve this by:
- Serving as the information hub for a diverse population of learners on and off each campus
- Acquiring and providing connections to a variety of knowledge resources in print, electronic, and other formats
ICT services
Designated computers are available to community and alumni use on the first floor of the library. Community users are allowed three log-ins to these computers per day, each for up to one hour. However, each one hour session will be extended automatically by 30 minute increments until there is demand for the workstation.
Campus life
Campus Operations consists of the Departments of Facilities, Public Safety and Security, Environmental Health and Safety, Event Planning and Classroom Scheduling staff who are focused on providing a safe, attractive atmosphere conducive for a higher education environment. We consider the students, staff and community in anticipating needs to be proactive in offering quick and effective responses. We strive to understand our customers to provide a comfortable, healthy and inviting environment.
Sports facilities
Featuring cardio and weight machines, lockers, as well as gender inclusive single-stall bathrooms for users, the Fitness Center serves as a space for students, staff, and faculty to focus on their physical well-being while on campus.The Fitness Center is open during regular Student Center hours, and closes 30 minutes prior to the end of services.Hours during recognized holidays and university breaks are subject to change.Registered undergraduate and graduate students may utilize the Fitness Center once they have submitted a liability waiver and interest form to Healthcare and Wellness Services.
Student clubs
The National Cybersecurity Student Association is a one-stop-shop to enhance the educational and professional development of cybersecurity students through activities, networking and collaboration. This group supports the cybersecurity educational programs of academic institution, inspires career awareness and encourages creative efforts to increase the number of underrepresented populations in the field.
