Hamline University

As Minnesota’s first university, we’ve been empowering students to make the world better for everyone. With the spirit of a trailblazer, we led the charge to educate the state’s earliest leaders—before there was a state to lead. As we go boldly into the future, we take the lead once more as difference makers, innovators, and champions of justice, determined to do all the good we can.

History

Hamline University is Minnesota’s first university. Named in honor of Leonidas Lent Hamline, a Methodist bishop who donated the funds, Hamline's first home was in the town of Red Wing in what was then the Territory of Minnesota.

Education

At Hamline, our mission is to create a diverse and collaborative community of learners dedicated to the development of students' knowledge, values, and skills for successful lives of leadership, scholarship, and service.

Research

Our vision for Hamline University, a diverse community of learners with students at the center that transforms lives, combined with our diversity policy, requires a comprehensive and integrated approach across all of our schools, programs, and administrative units. Our vision embraces a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all -- students, faculty, and staff.

Career

The Career Development Center (CDC) assists students and alumni as they explore, prepare for, and make successful transitions to life after Hamline. We empower individuals to take an active role in finding and pursuing their personal and professional passions.

The CDC offers a comprehensive program of professional and career development services for students. We're here to help students explore, plan, and achieve their career goals from the first year on campus to graduation and beyond.
