About

History

Concordia opened its doors in 1905 as a four-year academy to meet regional needs for pastors and school teachers for the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. The campus has evolved into a university that offers a solid liberal arts education with undergraduate and graduate degree programs in education, business, nursing, healthcare, social sciences, religion, math, and science.

Education

At Concordia University, our Lutheran education heritage encourages the inquisitive and curious mind, helping students learn to incorporate new knowledge, cultivate independent thoughts, and wrestle with complex issues and embrace cultural differences.  It provides the analytical foundation necessary to succeed in today’s global environment. And it fosters the development of the whole person — mind, body, and spirit.

Research

While Concordia University Portland is not a research institution, it has developed a strong undergraduate research program across its colleges, driven by individual faculty research.A number of professors from the Math/Science Department are actively conducting research on campus or through collaboration with regional laboratories. Each project is specific to the background and research interests of individual faculty members.

In addition, Concordia Portland offers a Summer Undergraduate Research Institute (SURI) providing students with practical research experience working alongside faculty during the summer months.
