Westminster University

Westminster is a private, non-profit, accredited, and comprehensive liberal arts college in Salt Lake City, Utah. Students experience the liberal arts blended with professional programs in an atmosphere dedicated to civic engagement.

History

Founded in 1875 as the Salt Lake Collegiate Institute, a preparatory school, Westminster first offered college classes in 1897 as Sheldon Jackson College. Named in honor of its primary benefactor, Sheldon Jackson, the college operated for many years on the Collegiate Institute campus in downtown Salt Lake City.

With the goal of guiding its graduates to a life with purpose, Westminster provides life-changing learning experiences for both undergraduate and graduate students. Faculty focus on teaching, learning and developing distinctive, innovative programs, while students thrive on Westminster's urban Sugar House campus within minutes of the Rocky Mountains.

Housing services

Westminster College offers a number of housing options for students living on campus. Whether you want to experience a traditional-style double occupancy room or apartment-style housing, Westminster has it all.

  • Westminster Campus

Hogle and Carleson Halls house the majority of Westminster's double occupancy rooms and are where most first-year students reside. Olwell and Behnken halls are also predominately for first-year students. Stock Hall is mainly for upper-class and transfer students.

  • Westminster Extended Campus

Westminster on the Draw and campus-owned houses located on Westminster's extended campus are available for upper-class and transfer students.

Library services

Research Guides are online tools developed by Westminster College librarians to help you find research resources for specific academic disciplines. Need to find a journal article, a book, or data? View the guide for your subject area in order to connect to databases that will help you track down scholarship and information in that field.

Campus life

Westminster is located in the eclectic Sugar House neighborhood of Salt Lake City, and is within 10 minutes from the downtown business district and 30 minutes from 6 mountain resorts. Westminster's 27-acre campus is comprised of 39 college facilities, including residence halls; a state-of-the-art, LEED-certified science center; a library; facilities for athletics and recreation; art and performance spaces, etc.

Sports facilities

The Dolores Doré Eccles Health, Wellness, and Athletic Center is home to the Fitness, Wellness, and Recreation Department, Intercollegiate Athletic Department, and the School of Nursing and Health Sciences. The center is filled with educational programs and opportunities for students, faculty, staff, and alumni to positively impact their health and well-being. Whether one is attending an athletic event, engaged in academic classes, or participating in activities to improve their personal fitness, the Health, Wellness, and Athletic Center serves as a campus-wide community learning center.

With over 40 clubs and organizations on campus, students have plenty of ways to get involved! It's easy to find clubs for everyone's interests- if not, its even easier to start a new club.
