University of Lynchburg

History

We were founded in 1903, when a handful of professors instructed fewer than 60 students in the halls of a former resort hotel. There were four people in the first graduating class.

Education

  • Undergraduate programs are comprised of 51 undergraduate majors, 62 minors, and 15 pre-professional programs.

  • Graduate Studies include the Doctor of Physical Therapy, Doctor of Education in Leadership Studies, Doctor of Medical Science, Master of Arts in music, Master of Business Administration (generalist and cybersecurity), Master of Education in seven concentrations, Master of Criminal Justice, Master of Nonprofit Leadership, Master of PA Medicine, Master of Public Health, and Master of Science in Athletic Training.

Research

The research class EXPH 350W, taken in the junior year, is designed to give students knowledge about research and how it should be conducted. The elective research class EXPH 451, taken in the senior year, provides students with the opportunity to conduct a small-scale research project and present the findings to their peers at the Student Scholar Showcase held on Red Letter Day each spring.

    Montgomery Hall

    • Double and triple occupancy rooms, community bathrooms, with gender-inclusive bathrooms on each floor
    • Most rooms are 16 feet by 11 feet 9 inches
    • Rooms are air-conditioned, carpeted
    • Two large lounges with cable television on the first and third floors
    • Each floor has a kitchen and there is a large laundry room on the 3rd floor

    Tate Hall

    Library services

    The Knight-Capron Library supports the active learning community of the University of Lynchburg with:

    ICT services

    • All our campus rooms have high-speed Internet access.
    • Information Technology and Resources provides comprehensive technology services to University of Lynchburg. These services, which support all college owned technology, include user support, training, programming and web page development.

    Medical services

    The University of Lynchburg’s Health and Counseling Center has a clinical staff of 15. Including, doctors, nurse practitioners, licensed counselors, and administrative staff. Our services provide quality, confidential, and compassionate care and education to University of Lynchburg students.

    Campus life

    • Located on 264 acres, the beautifully landscaped campus is a showplace. Facilities include more than 40 buildings, many of Georgian-style architecture. The Graduate Health Sciences Building is a short walk from the main campus and houses the Doctor of Physical Therapy and Master of PA Medicine programs.
    • The University of Lynchburg Campus Safety and Security Department provides a safe and secure environment where members of the University of Lynchburg Community live, study, work and play.
    • Our residence halls have kitchens, lounges, and laundry facilities. And we offer special programs that help you grow as a person.

    Sports facilities

    • The intercollegiate athletic program provides opportunities for men and women to compete in NCAA Division III and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) in 21 sports. 
    • LC students can also play a variety of intramural and club sports.
    • The fitness centers in Turner Gym and the Drysdale Student Center offer treadmills, ellipticals, weight machines and free weights. Sign up for a Zumba, kickboxing or yoga class, too.
    • Play on a team with club sports (play teams from other schools) and intramural sports (play teams from LC).

    Student clubs

    Currently, there are eleven chapters at the University of Lynchburg  – that’s 16% of the student population. 

    The six sororities are: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Sigma Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Kappa Delta, and Sigma Sigma Sigma. The four fraternities are: Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Phi Kappa Tau, Sigma Nu, and Sigma Phi Epsilon. There is also a co-ed fraternity, Alpha Psi Lambda.

    University of Lynchburg is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral degrees.
