History

In early 2012, the University System of Georgia's Board of Regents recommended the consolidation of North Georgia College & State University, which was founded in 1873 in Dahlonega, Georgia, and Gainesville State College, which was founded in 1964 in Gainesville, Georgia.

Education

The University of North Georgia offers a broad range of academic programs from certificates and associate degrees through professional doctorate programs.

The university offers more than 100 programs of study ranging from certificate and associate degrees to professional doctoral programs.

Housing services

UNG’s Gainesville Campus is located in Hall County, an epicenter for trade, healthcare, education, industry, retail, and recreation for northeast Georgia. This area offers incredible career opportunities for UNG graduates.

UNG’s Dahlonega Campus is readily recognized by the gold-covered steeple of the administration building, Price Memorial Hall which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The town is known widely for its historic town square embellished by art galleries, shops and restaurants.  

Library services

The University of North Georgia Libraries support and enhance the university’s student-focused and global mission by fostering learning and academic excellence through diverse collections, services, and teaching, creating a culture of inquiry, research, and lifelong learning in the academic and regional communities.

 

Medical services

Students may use the Student Health Centers in Dahlonega or Gainesville, rather than an urgent care, primary care, or emergency facility, but they should call ahead to make an appointment.

Sports facilities

The Outdoor Pursuits Program is dedicated to providing fun and educational experiences for the University of North Georgia community. Our goal is to create opportunities for students to connect with each other in an engaging and safe environment for the purpose of embracing new challenges and cultivating new relationships. Although physically located on the Dahlonega campus, Outdoor Pursuits is open to students on any campus as long as the activity fee has been paid.

Student clubs

UNG's clubs, organizations and activities provide fun ways to connect with others and equip students with valuable leadership skills.

University of North Georgia (UNG) is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)new window to award associate, baccalaureate, master, education specialist, and doctoral degrees. This includes the Doctor of Physical Therapy and Doctor of Education as well as pre-baccalaureate, post-baccalaureate, and post-master certificates.
