History

First established as New Garden Boarding School in 1837, Guilford College was originally created to teach the children of the Religious Society of Friends, also known as Quakers. The movement and its teachings were shaped by a progressive belief in all people's spiritual equality, and in the importance of taking socially responsible action in service to the community's greater good.

Student services

The Office of Registrar and Student Accounts has a dual role in providing academic and accounts services to Guilford College. It maintains, interprets and monitors academic policy and communicates procedures to faculty, students and the College’s other constituents. The office supports students, faculty, staff, administration and other members of the College community through the collection of tuition and fees. In addition, it supports the College’s Office of Institutional Research by maintaining a comprehensive database of student academic and demographic information.

Housing services

We are a residential campus, which means all traditional students under the age of 23 must live on campus. The many advantages of living on campus include being close to classes and academic resources with 24/7 access to the heart of campus life.

We have a diversity of housing options, including residence halls, theme houses (based on special interests like international culture) and campus apartments. All residential students are required to have one of the College’s meal plans. Residential students who do not choose a meal plan will be assigned the Quaker 19 meal plan by default. Explore the links below to learn more about our housing and dining options.

Library services

The Hege Library Academic Commons is a symbol of Guilford's academic excellence and institutional distinctiveness in furthering innovation through collaboration.
