College for Creative Studies

History

For more than a century, the College for Creative Studies (CCS) has distinguished itself as one of the premier institutions of higher learning in the world. The current College traces its heritage back to 1906 when a group of local civic leaders, inspired by the English Arts and Crafts movement, formed the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts.

Education

CCS provides you the opportunity to study at a world-class institution that not only gives you the knowledge to become a great artist or designer, but also the experience to prove it through your work. You’ll learn from professionals who know the ins and outs of their industries. You will benefit from small class sizes that offer more individual attention than you’ll find on other campuses.

Career

The College for Creative Studies' Career Development office is dedicated to exposing students and alumni to professional development opportunities and resources that will aid them in identifying and obtaining their personal career goals.

Student services

The International Student Services (ISSO) exists to serve the international student community at CCS throughout their academic career, and beyond. The ISSO supports and encourages cross-cultural exchange and understanding by building community through events, programs, and shared global experiences.

Housing services

The Taubman Center offers high ceiling, loft-style furnished rooms with one private bath. Each room is approximately 500 square feet and accommodates three to four people.

The Taubman Center is built on the philosophy of community, so just outside the student’s living quarters are workspaces, fitness rooms and lounge areas for students to interact. Each floor also houses a laundry room. Continuing with the theme of community, a full-service dining area is just a few floors below. Students living in the Taubman Center are required to have a meal plan.

Library services

The library has over 60,000 books, 267 periodicals, 64 electronic databases, and over 2,500 videos and DVDs, 90 percent of which deal with art and design. The college's digital database, Luna, is available online for study and classroom presentation; please see Academic Technology for training.

Medical services

The CCS Wellness Center is dedicated to promoting the well-being of the whole student and the whole campus. The Wellness Center offers personal counseling, group support, health services, workshops and various student-oriented activities aimed at building and fostering community, inclusion and the overall well-being of students.
