New Brunswick Theological Seminary

New Brunswick Theological Seminary was founded more than 235 years ago – the first seminary established in North America. Our dedication to providing rigorous and accessible training for a diverse community of students has made us the institution of choice for those who demand an exceptional seminary education, a flexible academic schedule, and the sustenance of a spiritually rich community.

History

New Brunswick Seminary began in 1784, when the General Synod of the Reformed Dutch Church—now known as the Reformed Church in America—elected a New York pastor named John Henry Livingston (1746-1825) to be its “professor.” His task was to prepare students to become the Reformed Church’s ministers of the Word.

Education

As a seminary with a Reformed tradition, New Brunswick has continually redesigned its programs to meet the challenges of a changing world and community and church. Come and change with us!

Our programs offer training for the religious professional and the layperson who wish to grow in knowledge and faith, strengthen their spirit, and provide transformational leadership.

Regardless of your path at NBTS, your destination is not only a degree but an opportunity to grow in faith and witness as you continue to live out the call of God in your life.
