New York Theological Seminary

New York Theological Seminary (NYTS) has long been recognized for its innovative programs, its pioneering spirit, and its commitment to training women and men for ministry in the real world.

History

New York Theological Seminary (NYTS) was founded in 1900 by Wilbert Webster White as the Bible Teacher’s Training College in Montclair. A gifted scholar and teacher, President White developed a curriculum that combined the study of the Bible in one’s own language with practical training for ministry.

Education

NYTS offers a variety of degree programs and certificates, with opportunities for specialization in a number of areas of interest.  We can assist churches and other faith-based communities in stewardship, spiritual formation, capacity building, religious education, and leadership training.  The Seminary collaborates with city agencies, neighborhood groups, and other organization to offer resources for churches, other religious communities, and faith-based non-profit corporations in areas such as affordable housing, community organization, prison re-entry, or economic development.

Library services

New York Theological Seminary seeks to be a central resource for urban theological scholarship and education. As such, its library services are integral to the purpose of the school. Students at NYTS have full access to the range of religious literature necessary for their education.

New York Theological Seminary is accredited by the Commission on Accrediting of the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada (ATS) and chartered by the Regents of The University of the State of New York.
