Point Park University

History

The University began as a small business training college in 1933 under the direction of Dorothy Finkelhor and L. Herbert Finkelhor. By 1960, the business school had grown to more than 800 students and moved into the building now known as Academic Hall, on Wood Street in Downtown Pittsburgh. That year it became known as Point Park Junior College, named for the city's historic Point State Park.

Education

Our dynamic, urban campus provides every opportunity for high-level learning and professional development within our more than 100 undergraduate and graduate programs through our Conservatory of Performing Arts, Rowland School of Business and Schools of Arts and Sciences, Education and Communication.

Research

The Office of Institutional Research and Planning is responsible for providing Point Park University leadership with information that supports institutional planning, policy formation and decision making. The office serves as a comprehensive source for information about the University, provides data to meet various state and federal requirements, and generates essential University reports.

Career

Point Park welcomes your interest in our employment opportunities and strives to attract top candidates for our job openings. Point Park is a private, urban university with nearly 4,000 undergraduate and graduate students at our campus in Downtown Pittsburgh.

Student services

Our ISSE office serves as a single point of contact, guiding you every step of the way - through the admission process, to your arrival on campus and throughout your four years at Point Park.

Housing services

Because students' needs vary, accommodations are determined on a case-by-case basis. After documentation is evaluated by the coordinator of disability services, students will be notified as to whether or not it has met the established guidelines and verifies that there is a functional limitation.

ICT services

The Technology Help Desk staff members are available to assist the University community with any issues involving the technology resources available at Point Park University. They are the primary point of contact for all issues involving Information Technology Services.

Medical services

For care involving the treatment of minor illnesses and injuries, the University maintains the Student Health Center and the University Counseling Center on campus. However, we realize that more serious medical situations may require care beyond the capabilities of on-campus health services - costly care such as emergency department visits, surgery, hospital stays and therapy visits.

Campus life

Whether this is your first time away from home or you've always been an independent, free spirit, we provide safe, comfortable, amenity-rich living options on our unique urban campus.

Sports facilities

The Student Center is committed to providing the finest programs, services and equipment in order to enrich the University's recreational activities for students, staff and alumni. The Student Center offers a variety of facilities and spaces, including:

  • Recreational and lounge spaces with billiards, ping pong tables and board games.
  • Fitness Center with elliptical machines, treadmills, stationary bikes, indoor track and weight lifting equipment.
  • Meeting space (booked through Conference and Event Services)
  • The Bike Program is a free program that allows students and members to check out bikes for use during posted hours.

Point Park University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
