The University of the Arts

History

stablished in 1876, the university was formed by the merging of two century-old institutions: Philadelphia College of Art and Philadelphia College of the Performing Arts. After being granted university status in 1987, the University of the Arts became the largest institution of its kind in the nation, offering programs in design, fine arts, media arts, crafts, music, dance, theater and writing.

Career

The Career Services Office is pleased to offer our students and alumni free access to UArtsCareers, a database of job listings and other opportunities.  Through UArtsCareers, students and alumni may store and distribute online resumes and portfolios. The system is also used to manage the academic internship program.

Housing services

The University of the Arts is committed to providing reasonable accommodations in residential housing for individuals with disabilities. Library services

The University Libraries at University of the Arts provide services and collections that educate and inspire students to be effective researchers and critical users of information and apply those skills to their artistic, creative and lifelong endeavors. UArts’ Libraries reflect the broad range of interests and media UArts students are inspired by. 

ICT services

The Office of Technology and Information Services (OTIS) provides a wide range of technical support, equipment and services to UArts' academic and administrative areas.

Medical services

UArts Health Services is committed to providing care, treatment and education to keep you healthy and happy.All current, matriculated students are welcome to use the Health Office regardless of insurance type. All medical issues are strictly confidential. Please refer to the links on the top right of the page for more information regarding resources and services.

Campus life

UArts is at the heart of everything artistic and cultural in Philly. Within walking distance of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Rodin Museum, the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts and literally hundreds of visual and performing arts venues, our Avenue of the Arts address offers major perks

Sports facilities

A "gray box" studio practice and performance space for students in the university's School of Dance.  The YGym Dance Theater is a studio practice and performance space.

Student clubs

Whether you are joining a club, connecting with friends through UArtist Pen Pals, participating in Emerging Leaders or helping to welcome students as a First Year Guide, there are multiple ways to make life-long connections. 

We have over 30 clubs and organizations, tons of events and activities that focus on many different areas of interest, leadership programs, student leader positions and so much more.

  • The University of the Arts is authorized by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to grant degrees in the visual, performing and related arts, and is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
  • The College of Art, Media & Design is also an accredited institutional member of the National Association of the Schools of Art and Design.
  • The School of Music is also accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.
