  • Welcome to the Research Office pages of the IT Sligo Website. The Institute has an important role in driving economic and social development in the North West of Ireland. Relevant, effective Research and Innovation is a key element of this. We have a vibrant and productive research community, active in the undergraduate, postgraduate and professional research spheres.

Housing services

  • IT Sligo offers a range of purpose built student accommodation, self-catering options and digs.
  • In total there are over 2,000 beds available in The Gateway Apartments, Ard Nua Village, The Village Clarion Road, The Grove, Yeats Village, Milligan Place, Unirooms and the Lake Isle Accommodation. There are also a number of popular areas off campus for students to reside, including Mulberry Park, Rathbraughan, Cartron, The Mall and Clarion Village.

There is also information on using library services and resources such as searching for information and accessing library material in both print and online formats, borrowing and renewing books, assignment and reference supports, booking study rooms online and using self-service facilities.

Campus life

Students and visitors to IT Sligo are struck by the friendly and informal atmosphere on campus. We have students from across Ireland and we have an increasing number of international visitors.

Our single modern 72-acre ‘University-feel’ campus is constantly evolving to reflect the needs of the 21st century student. Everything is within walking distance – including Sligo town centre.

Sports facilities

  • Knocknarea Arena - multi-purpose hall with two courts, Fitness centre with state-of-the-art cardiovascular and resistance equipment and free weights, recreation space 
  • Playing Pitches - There is a fully floodlit gaelic pitch and two floodlit training pitches and an excellent soccer pitch on campus. These pitches are extensively used by the very successful college teams. They are available on a limited basis for hire by the external community.
  •  Astro Pitch can be used for multi-sports, such as soccer, rugby and GAA. It has three 7-a-side soccer pitches, and is flood-lit. 
  • Athletics Arena is an 8 lane tartan surface championship facility. It is used extensively by the local community and college groups.

Student clubs

  • We have over thirty clubs and thirty societies active every year.
  • The most popular sports clubs that we have apart from Gaelic football are soccer, ladies football, hurling, athletics, surfing and handball. We also have clubs for the likes of judo, sailing, horse riding and sub aqua.
  •  With over 70 Clubs & Societies from Surfing to Gaming and Dancing to Debating, you will experience a student life here like no other.

Accreditation

All ATU Sligo online courses are fully accredited. There is no difference between an on-campus qualification and an online qualification.
