College of Engineering

The Carl R. Ice College of Engineering serves the citizens of Kansas, the nation and the world by providing world-class educational, research and service programs. Students and faculty develop in their chosen disciplines and advance as successful leaders and professionals.

The history of the college, from 1965 through 2018, is presented through news clips and photos extracted from the archived issues of Impact magazine, the college’s annual publication for alumni, friends and parents of current students. The fall 2018 magazine was the final issue published before the college’s official name change to the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering.

The University Engineering Initiative Act was created to increase the number of engineering graduates by almost 60% in the state of Kansas over a 10-year period. The initiative directs the Secretary of the Kansas Department of Commerce to work with the Kansas Board of Regents as well as Kansas State University, the University of Kansas and Wichita State University to develop a plan to target engineering education efforts to fuel economic growth and business success in Kansas. This endeavor will infuse approximately 500 new engineers into the workforce after the 10-year period.

The college has vibrant research and graduate programs. Faculty and staff currently collaborate with government agencies, state agencies, industry and other educational partners in order to advance research, scholarly activities, engineering science and discovery. Faculty members are active in presenting and publishing their research activities, as well as advancing graduate and undergraduate students in technical skills of research.
