International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad

The International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIITH) is a private deemed university located in Hyderabad, India. Over the years, the institute has evolved strong research programmes in various areas, with an emphasis on technology and applied research for industry and society.

History

The International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIITH) is an autonomous university, founded as a not-for-profit public private partnership (N-PPP) in 1998, and is the first IIIT in India under this model.

Education

The Institute offers challenging academic programmes focusing on technology and applied research, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, which encourage students to not only excel in course work but also carry out research in their chosen specialization.

Research

IIIT Hyderabad is structured around research centers and labs as opposed to schools and departments. Each research center focuses on a broad problem area and brings together experts possibly with varied background to conduct research and development on specific aspects of that problem area, constantly pushing the science to the next level:

  • Signal Processing and Communications Research Center (SPCRC)
  • Data Sciences and Analytics Center (DSAC)
  • Language Technologies Research Center (LTRC)
  • Robotics Research Center (RRC)
  • Center for Security, Theory and Algorithms (CSTAR)
  • Software Engineering Research Center (SERC)
  • Center for Visual Information Technology (CVIT)
  • Machine Learning Lab
  • Centre for Quantum Science and Technology

Career

IIIT, Hyderabad is one of the few engineering schools in the country to have a large number of R&D collaborations with the domestic industry, and most research linkages with the leading technology universities overseas.

These companies straight away offer students the much coveted R&D jobs soon after they join, while such positions are earned by proven performance after the mandatory one-or-two-year probationary period of work for students of other prestigious technology institutes in the country. This is a testimony to the research orientation and research abilities of the students.

Housing services

IIITH has three separate hostels for boys and two for girls on campus. The girls’ hostel wardens and hostel in charge stay on campus, as do several faculty and staff along with their families. The campus is efficiently guarded by 24-hour security at the hostels, main gate and all academic and administrative buildings. There’s just one entry and exit point so safety and security are never compromised. Evenings on campus are a pleasant sight with well-lit streets and common areas surrounded by mature trees and lush greenery.

Library services

The Library has a large collection of Reference Books, Text Books, Technical reports, Standards, Literature books and CDROMS. The Library is being managed with fully integrated multi-user Library Management Software. Using this software, cataloguing and circulation services are being automated along with Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) facility.

ICT services

A digital library is also maintained. Students can download any permitted software from this resource. There are many textbooks and reference books available in the digital format as well. Many lectures have also been recorded and are available online for students use. Most courses maintain an intranet site containing lecture slides and other course material.

Campus life

The 66 acres campus, located on the main Gachibowli road (also called the Old Bombay highway) is well connected by bus and is on the route for the proposed metro rail. It is surrounded by many academic and research institutions like the Hyderabad Central University, Indian School of Business (ISB), TCS-CMC, Indian Immunologicals and Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Development Banking (JNIDB), and are minutes away from the bustling HiTech City Center and Lingampally, which are major shopping areas. Lingampally is also the nearest railway station.
