In 2002, the Open Universiteit of the Netherlands took its first steps towards implementation of its internationalisation policy. Contrary to most institutions for higher education, the exchange of students or attracting them to come is not is a prime focus here.
The Welten Institute is the Research Centre for Learning, Teaching and Technology of the Open University of the Netherlands. Its research focuses on 'Learning and teaching in technology enhanced learning environments'.
Within this programme there are areas of interest:
About 60% of students remain in paid employment throughout their studies, and nearly 35% have enrolled because it leaves them free to choose their own time and place of study and lets them progress at their own pace.
