Institute of Education

History

The University of Cumbria was formed in 2007 by the merger of St Martin’s College, Cumbria Institute of the Arts and University of Central Lancashire’s Cumbria sites, operating from campuses spread across Cumbria and North Lancashire. We may be a relatively new university, but we are steeped in history dating right the way back to 1822.

Education

Offering courses at BA (Hons), PGCE and Master's level, from Non-Teaching Education courses to Teacher Training and CPD for Teachers, the University of Cumbria Institute of Education is one of the top providers of teacher training and education programmes in the UK.

Research

The Institute of Education now works with a diverse range of education providers to bring about positive change through grounded professional inquiry and research, developing confident and competent leaders who can act as a catalyst for a better education experience for everyone. This engagement is based on five 5 key principles of Collaboration, Lifelong Learning, Inquiry, Impact and Innovation.
