History

The University, founded in 1404, provides quality higher education and research opportunities; many UniTo graduates have achieved international renown.

Many of the leading figures in 20th century Italian political, social and cultural life graduated from University of Torino, as well as three Nobel Prizes for Medicine Winners.

Education

Today, the University of Torino offers about 150 undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses in almost every field of study. A growing number of courses are taught in English, and Italian language tuition is available for incoming students.

Starting from the academic year 2017/2018, the following NEW degree courses taught in English will be available: Business Administration (master level) and Medicine and Surgery (one long cycle degree course).

The University’s 27 departments offer excellent opportunities for Italian and non-Italian academic staff; 4 doctoral schools provide 29 doctoral programmes.Its Medical Diagnostic, Biosensoristics and Nanotechnologies research centres are amongst the best ones in Italy.

Career

The University's Job Placement Service has been established in order to help its students and new graduated (who held their university degree within 12 months) to enter the labour market. The service operates on two levels: through the Job Placement offices in the individual Schools and Departments and through the central Job Placement office at the Students' Rights office.

As a whole, the Job Placement Service serves an intermediary function, at once helping students in their careers choices and in making preliminary contact with companies and helping companies, public bodies and international institutions to find and choose students and recent graduates.

Student services

The Foreign Students and International Mobility offices offer a wide range of services for international and exchange students, such as guidance and assistance for enrolment procedures, recognition of academic qualifications, visa application process, residency permit, support in finding accommodation, student services.

The University of Torino also provides scholarships to deserving international students with foreign degrees, willing to enrol in UniTo second cycle degree courses.

Regarding tuition fees, students must settle the payment in two instalments for each academic year.

Housing services

The University of Turin provides a range of options in order to help its international exchange students and guests find an accommodation in the city. They can apply for accommodation at EDISU University Residences or they can use the Cercoalloggio service and the Internet platform HousingAnywhere to find accommodation in private residences or share an apartment with other students.

Library services

Students and academic staff can make use of 34 libraries with over 2 million books: 100,000 are antique volumes.

The Botanic Garden and several University Museums such as "Cesare Lombroso" - Criminal Anthropology Museum and "Luigi Rolando" - Human Anatomy Museum are well known.

ICT services

The University of Turin offers its students computer labs with advanced hardware and software tools and Internet access, multimedia labs, free and unlimited Wi-Fi and a cloud-based set of productivity tools.

E-learning platforms and other tools and services for education are available to ensure access to lectures, seminars, meetings and educational materials useful for the study.

Medical services

Guests coming from EU countries  staying  in Italy more than 3 months, can access to health care supplied by "SSN- Servizio Sanitario Nazionale" (National Health Service).

To access to health care, the guest must go to a doctor  with identity papers and the original plus a copy of the European Health Insurance Card (TEAM).

Campus life

Edisu Piemonte, a regional institution for students' assistance, offers restaurant service to all university students at special fares, in our university canteens.

The service is addressed to:

  • Italian and foreign students (with valid residence permit), regularly enrolled at the University of Turin for the current academic year
  • professors, university staff and lecturers, also coming from other Italian or foreign Universities
  • people attending conferences, seminars and study activities
  • other people authorized by Edisu

Sports facilities

The University Sports Centre (CUS Torino) aims at promoting competitive and non-competitive sports among students, teachers and employees at Turin University. It offers more than 100 different sports at all levels.

CUS Torino sports facilities are located in a number of sites in the city and in surroundings areas.

The CUS CARD is free for Turin University students, Erasmus students, teachers and employees. In addition, thanks to CUS Progetto Disabili, disabled students can enjoy all activities offered for free, using specially adapted equipment, under the presence of a qualified instructor.
