Free University of Bozen-Bolzano

History

The Free University of Bozen-Bolzano was founded in 1997. Our university has a strong international outlook, as testified by its multilingual courses (German, Italian, English and Ladin) and the high number of students and teaching staff from abroad.

Education

The university has five faculties, and a high percentage of lecturers (35%) and students (17%) come from abroad and they study, teach and do research in the fields of Economics, Natural Sciences, Engineering, Social Sciences, Education and Design. We have 4,100 students registered to more than 30 undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses.

Research

If, on one hand, many of our research projects tackle global environmental, economic, social or technology topics, on the other hand many are deeply rooted in our region. They address the current issues of sustainable use of resources, socio-economic development and lifelong learning within the Alps. The main features of our research are interdisciplinary collaboration and interaction with local companies. Despite its recent foundation, unibz in the past few years has already established itself as an important research institution, both in Italy and abroad.

Career

The Career Service is the link between unibz and the job market. It supports students and graduates in the critical transition from being a student to finding a job. Our staff provide individual advice on internships, job applications, interviews, dissertation projects carried out on-site, recognition of work experience, jobs and scholarships. We also organise seminars, workshops and company visits.

Distance Learning Courses

Student services

The International Relations Office supports both students from our university who want to spend part of their course in a university abroad (outgoing) and foreign students who want to spend part of their degree in our university (incoming).

The Advisory Service is the first point of contact for students at unibz. The office provides information about study programmes, funding opportunities and accommodation. Secondary schools can request to book a presentation about our educational offer to be held in their school or on our campuses.

The Student Secretariat manages student applications, registration and tuition fees. The office manages student careers and issues certificates, diplomas and diploma supplements.

Housing services

The Office for the Right to Study is in charge for the assignment of places in student halls. There are 508 places available in Bozen - Bolzano and 115 in Brixen - Bressanone.

The places are given out on a first-come-first-served basis.

The University does not act as a mediator between the landlords and its students: please contact the person offering a room/flat yourself and agree on the details such as rent and payment agreements. Depending on the type (double room, single room or one-bedroomed flat) and the size of the accommodation, the monthly rent for one person can vary from € 250 to € 400.

Library services

The Library of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, with its campuses in Bozen-Bolzano, Brixen-Bressanone and Bruneck-Brunico, has been created as a multimedia centre that serves not only the University’s students and staff but also the local community.

Our mission has always been to provide the information required for teaching and learning, research and life-long learning.

ICT services

Our ICT office designs, creates, manages and coordinates the information and digital communication services at unibz. Our goal is to bring tuition and research into the digital age. ICT’s priority areas of intervention are: optimisation of internal processes; cloud computing; enterprise mobility; big data; analytics and – last but not least – high performance computing.

Campus life

The Free University of Bozen-Bolzano has three campuses:

  • Bozen-Bolzano is the main campus, with the central offices and four of the five Faculties: Economics and Management, Computer Science, Design and Art, Science and Technology.
  • At the campus of Brixen-Bressanone you’ll find the Faculty of Education.
  • Bruneck-Brunico is the campus of the Bachelor Programme of “Management in Tourism, Sport and Event Management”, which is part of the Faculty of Economics and Management.

Student clubs

UNIBZ has a rich student life where students of all faculties can become members of our student associations. For their projects they are supported financially from the Advisory Service.
