The University of British Columbia (UBC) is a global centre for teaching, learning and research, consistently ranked among the top 20 public universities in the world and recently recognized as North America’s most international university.
Kelowna signed up, and by 1963 B.C. Premier W.A.C. Bennett, himself from Kelowna, opened the $1.7-million B.C. Vocational School – Kelowna, located far from the small city’s downtown core on K.L.O. Road. This marked the beginning of what the region knows today as Okanagan College, and formed the nucleus of what was to come.
Purpose-built for the 21st century, the University of British Columbia's Okanagan campus opened in Kelowna in 2005. UBC is one of North America’s largest public research and teaching institutions, and one of only two Canadian institutions consistently ranked among the world’s 40 best universities.
