Dublin City University (DCU) was established in 1972 and awarded university status in 1989. It has four faculties, and over 11,000 students in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. DCU currently offers online programmes in each of its four faculties and it hosts Ireland’s national distance learning platform, Oscail. Oscail was established as the National Distance Education Centre in 1982. Oscail currently has just under 1,000 students, all of whom are on online programmes leading to major DCU awards in information technology, business, management, sustainable development, humanities and nursing. Moreover Oscail has a strong research profile in innovative distance education and e- learning technologies
