Knowledge with Purpose: A Reflection on My Studies

My academic journey has been both meaningful and transformative, shaped by my studies in Islamic education and my current pursuit of a master’s degree at Mindanao State University. Coming from a background in traditional Islamic learning, including my time at MEKKE KURAN KURSU in Türkiye, I have developed a strong foundation in Islamic principles, which I continue to integrate into my academic and research pursuits. What I really appreciate about my study experience is the opportunity to connect theory with real-world applications, especially in the field of Islamic finance and governance. My current research on Shari’ah-compliant governance in Islamic financial institutions has allowed me to explore contemporary challenges while remaining grounded in classical Islamic jurisprudence. I also value the diversity of perspectives I encounter, which has broadened my critical thinking and strengthened my analytical skills. Another aspect I deeply appreciate is the resilience and purpose that drive my studies. Being a survivor of the Marawi Siege has profoundly influenced my educational journey, giving me a strong sense of responsibility to contribute to community development and ethical leadership through my field. However, there are areas that could be improved. Greater access to research resources, stronger institutional support for specialized fields like Islamic finance, and more opportunities for international collaboration would significantly enhance the learning experience. Additionally, more structured mentorship and exposure to global academic networks would help students like me further develop our research capabilities. Overall, I would summarize my study experience as enriching, purpose-driven, and evolving. It has not only equipped me with academic knowledge but also instilled in me a commitment to contribute meaningfully to society through research, ethical practice, and service.
